Hydrogen Sea is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist PJ Seaux and singer Birsen Uçar. PJ handles the guitar, triggers the wavy synths and controls the dark beats. Birsen complements their distinctive sound with soft-voiced, dreamy lyrics. Hydrogen Sea is a delicate blend of dark electronics and an ethereal voice.
Bursting from the digital underground is Majestique, a Dutch production duo that grew up in the mid eighties. After they ran into each other, they discovered a shared passion for strange chords, running arpeggiators and dusty drum computers. A passion that is possibly programmed in their brains by influencers like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Giorgio Moroder. With sudden access to unlimited analog machines, it felt like a higher power was trying to tell these guys it was time to create something timeless in a digital era where music is consumed so quickly.
E1SBAR is comprised of Piper Davis and Francisco Cueto.
Piper Davis is a musician and Red Bull Music Academy Alumna based in Toronto. Having collaborated as a vocalist and/or producer with Stimming, Dave DK, Dennis Coffey of the Funk Brothers, Russell Elevado (recorded and mixed D'Angelo's Voodoo), grammy award-nominated Natalia Lafourcade and Keys N Krates, she's also opened for La Roux and Dragonette as a solo artist and has been featured in numerous publications including XLR8R and the The New York Post. Past releases include features on the Mercedes Benz Mix Series, Red Bull Various Assets, Kompakt, Pampa, Fort Knox Recordings, Homebreakin, and YYZ records.
Francisco Cueto is a musician hailing from Northern Virginia. With a Bachelors in Science for audio engineering from American University his sound production is meticulous and clean. He is also a lead member of the All Good Funk Alliance which was ranked in Breakspoll’s top 50 list of breaks producers. As AGFA, he has opened for James Brown and played at the 2013 Outside Lands Festival.
Jack Dixon is a New York-based electronic artist. Influenced by Wolfgang Voigt, mutant disco, Autechre and Tim Hecker, his intricate productions sound as much at home on a packed, sweltering dance floor as they do on headphones in the sleepy half-light of the night bus home.
Unconstrained by genre, Jack has established an arresting, unique sound that joins the melodic nuances of house, the subtle experimentalism of minimal techno and the rhythmic flexibility of the UK underground.
From his earliest releases on Brownswood, TAKE, and Silverback, he found love and support from Mary Anne Hobbs, Jacques Greene, Joy Orbison, Will Saul, Sinden, Eats Everything, Tim Green, Simon Baker, Steve Mac and Groove Armada. Further releases for Skint/Under 5’s, Apollo/R&S and Losing Suki/Hypercolour have cemented his reputation as one of the most important rising forces in modern electronic music.
Jaakko Eino Kalevi
Jaakko Eino Kalevi (born 1984) is a Finnish musician.
He released his self-titled album on 15 June 2015 on Weird World. The ten-track collection finds Jaakko on spellbinding form, composing sumptuous and wildly original music that teems with ideas and more than delivers on the promise of its predecessor, the breakthrough 2013 EP Dreamzone. Jaakko Eino Kalevi marks the start of a striking new chapter for the Berlin-based artist – a former tram driver in Helsinki – who’s already made quite an impression on the international stage.
Cross Record is Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski. While studying fine arts in Ireland through The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Cross discovered her love for songwriting and recording. Upon her return to Chicago, she began to perform-- experimenting with various musicians around the city . She met her husband, local recording engineer Dan Duszynski, and forged the creative partnership that is now Cross Record. They now currently reside and record in Dripping Springs, TX.
P O P F I L T E R
After a year of quiet collaboration to refine their vision, Denver based band, P O P F I L T E R, exploded into Colorado's sonic radar with their debut song, ‘Empire’. A week upon the song’s release, the band was voted as a top 3 finalist for KTCL 93.3's Hometown for the Holidays contest and played their first ever show to a packed Summit Music Hall audience. Barely a month later, ‘Empire’ was featured on the homepage of Noisetrade as part of their New & Notable collection, and it appears as if the band has nowhere to go but up. With their dreams and aspirations aligned, P O P F I L T E R aims to create a brand of music that is honest, yet appealing to the masses. With only a handful of performances under their belt, the band continues to push the limits of their live experience to create an engaging and unique atmosphere for existing and new fans alike.
P O P F I L T E R recently released their follow up single, ‘All The Colors,’ with plans to release three more songs throughout the year.
“Sponge State” is the first track from SLØTFACE’s forthcoming debut EP of the same name. That four-track record is out May 27th via Propeller and also features previous singles “Kill ‘Em With Kindness”, “Shave My Head” and “Get My Own”.
Polaris Rose is a Los Angeles Alt Rock duo comprised of Peter Anthony and Madelynn Elyse. They emerged onto the LA scene in the Fall of 2013 with the release of their debut EP, “The Moon & its Secrets”.
The EP was not lost on the blogosphere, and was featured on IX Daily, The Ripple Effect, and Absolute Punk. Music videos for the EP’s two singles, “Chartreuse” and “Dreamers” were featured on 7Bit Arcade and Pure Grain Audio. Their EP release show was covered by Patrick O’Heffernan (NPR) , who stated: “Polaris Rose filled the room with seven songs altogether, impossibly well-crafted thanks to Peter’s enormous guitar chops and lyrical delivery, and Maddie’s room-filling voice and bass. As a live act, they top their studio album in sound quality as well as excitement, not always easy.”
Polaris Rose immediately began work on their follow-up EP, “OceanSongs”. Initially imagined as a two-song release, the album “grew in the telling”, becoming a 5-song self-produced EP.
The duo released their debut single, “Goddess” in February 2014. The song was premiered on AltSounds and was also featured on Largehearted Boy and 7bit Arcade. Their follow-up single, “Hurricanes” premiered on 7Bit Arcade and was also featured on Pure Grain and Hunnypot Radio. “OceanSongs” was officially released on April 22nd, 2014 and was described as “a unique blend of catchy, melodic choruses and energetic performances that sets them apart from the indie scene norm. Their songs are full of eccentric harmonies, memorable lyrics, and well-crafted instrumentation that is made all the more impressive by the fact that they produce and record their songs by themselves (AltSounds.com).” Following the release of their third single “OceanEnding”, the band was voted ‘LA Artist of the Month’ on LA Deli Magazine.
The duo’s debut full-length “Telescopes” was released November 11th, 2014 to positive reviews. The 10-song album put Polaris Rose onto Music Connect’s list of HOT 100 Live Unsigned Artists. The Aquarian Weekly spoke highly of the album, saying: “The best characteristic of Polaris Rose is their natural harmonious flow. They’ve got a unique situation in the sense that they have a really good balance between their musical efforts and relationship to each other. There isn’t a forced bond or lack of one either, but rather it seems like they’ve found a good bond without having to work too hard.”
In 2016, Polaris Rose will be releasing their second LP, titled Ocean Blue, Velvet Skies. It is the second album of a planned 6-album series. To achieve the vision of the duo, they brought in John Spiker (Tenacious D, Beck, Filter) to mix. Eric Boulanger (One Republic, Colbie Caillat) mastered the album.
The album’s first single, TigerBait was released in early January 2016. Kira Grunenberg, from Throw the Dice and Play Nice reviewed the song and had this to say: “If TigerBait is also one’s first introduction to Anthony and Elyse, the chances of multi-faceted intrigue are so high it’s almost scary. Starting with the unusual and gripping title, moving to the band’s delicate style of artwork and then diving into the song itself, each turn reveals a different dimension of expression that keeps one’s understanding of who Polaris Rose is, from ever fully settling –but never to the point of disjointed frustration.” The music video for “TigerBait” premiered on Pancakes & Whiskey on February 9th, 2016.
Psychic Lemon rehearse and record in a studio in the back of a small garden.
The band got together at the end of 2013, everyone looking for a new musical challenge -- to write and play the music they want to play, and not be held back by the expectations of others. However, if other people like it too, then that's great: The band's goal is to entertain without compromise.
No one likes to be pigeonholed, but the music can loosely be described as psychedelic or krautrock. The band's influences are broad, but favourite bands include The Heads and Amon Düül II. As of December 2015, Psychic Lemon are finishing off their debut album, which will be out in March.
Whispering Sons is a Belgian post-punk band formed in 2013. Their dark sound breathes desperation and nervosity, which translates into an ominous atmosphere. Their first EP ‘Endless Party’ was released in December 2015 on Wool-E Tapes and was reissued on vinyl in March 2016 through Minimal Maximal. In April 2016, the band won Humo’s Rock Rally, Belgium’s most prestigious music competition.
It seems like there has been a small wave of psychedelic rock revival these days. We can probably thank Tame Impala and Temples for that one. In any case, we're becoming big fans of this movement no matter how big it will get. Copenhagen based band Masasolo is following suite, gearing up for their debut EP coming out in the fall via Antiphonics.
Their debut single, "Really Thought She Loved Me" delivers an easy listening type of psychedelia. With their dreamy vocals and a warm ambiance emanating from the soft guitaring, Masasolo breaks into the indie scene with a highly likeable single. Their laid back moods emphasized in "Really Thought She Loved Me" sets themselves up for a potentially interesting and refreshing EP when it does drop. Of course, there will be inevitable comparisons with the two biggest modern psychedelic bands Tame Impala and Temples as they have set the standards quite high in that regard. But there is absolutely no need for such criticism for Masasolo as they are just starting out on their journey to make a splash in the music scene.
