Many Voices Speak
LAAKE / PIANO TRANSE
LAAKE distille une matière sonore sombre et liquide dans des compositions où s’entremêlent synthétiseurs, piano, voix suaves et machines incisives.
Pick a Piper
Ontario electronic experimentalist Brad Weber aka Pick A Piper releases his most gripping and emotional collection of songs yet, Distance, early next year. Weber – also known for his role in dance favourites Caribou – has ventured everywhere from Chernobyl and Guatemala to the Canadian Arctic, northern mountains of Japan and south America since his first release as Pick A Piper. On this new album, he lets that influence show. A bewitching slow-rave travelogue of sounds and stories picked up along the way, it’s a record that simmers with both the excitement of adventuring to these locales, and the melancholy of the people you leave behind to visit them. “It’s a great source of heartache, but also a great source of joy,” Weber explains of an album “about trying to balance connectivity with chronically being away.” Distance, like the scene in all good postcards, you’ll long to return to again and again.
Hailing from St. Petersburg, Russia, Dimitry Kuzmin aka Nuage is no newcomer to the producing world. Kuzmin began producing under the musical alias of Nuage six years ago with his early releases deeply rooted in drum and bass. His first solo release ‘Missing You’ was included in the Medschool ‘New Blood Compilation’.
His more recent productions have shifted in sound to encompass a wider range of influences and styles, in his own words “to express a broader spectrum of emotions”. Nuage’s first full length release, the incredibly vibrant and deep ‘Music Of Branches’ paid homage to the stylings of Garage, Deep House and 170BPM Eletronica, dropping on Dublin-based Absys Records. With a second LP ‘Print Of You’ released on American Translation Records, Nuage saw further records released on labels such as French imprint Roche Musique, Food Music and Blu Mar Ten.
Nuage continues to create emotionally charged, elevating music, channeling his love of various contrasting genres into his compositions, the end result of which is always a mutiformity of sonic brilliance.
Monokle, Russia’s experienced electronic musician based in St. Petersburg. Monokle crosses many stylistic boundaries but always remains recognizable by his melodic, warm and eclectic electronica-based sound.
