Louise Roam

Simone White

Born in Hawaii to a family of artists, Simone White spent her early years playing in the dirt and moving from town to town. Her mother was a folksinger, her father a sculptor, grandma was a burlesque performer and auntie was a pop songwriter. Grandfather was a poet who favored the sonnet.

Drawn to the arts, Simone acted in plays and films, made photographs and wrote. Needing an instrument for the songs she wrote a cappella, Simone taught herself to play guitar. But other interests prevailed and it wasn't until she moved to New York from London in 2000 that she was ready to get on stage and play. She played at NYC clubs and bars and poetry-art parties. A chance meeting in 2004 took her to Nashville to record with Mark Nevers (Calexico, Will Oldham, Lambchop) and the result caught the interest of Damon Albarn's label Honest Jon's and she was signed.

Since the 2007 release of that record, I Am The Man, Simone has toured extensively, from Lincoln Center in New York to WOMAD in the UK, the Green Man Festival in Wales and throughout Europe. I Am The Man was a favorite with critics from MOJO to the Daily Mail and the single "The Beep Beep Song" became the soundtrack for a world-wide, award-winning ad campaign for Audi.

Simone White's album Yakiimo, released in 2009 by Honest Jon's, received 4 stars in UK's MOJO and entered the German Rolling Stone critic's pick at number 5. German Rolling Stone also featured Simone in its July 2009 issue. The opening track "Bunny in a Bunny Suit" toured the world as the soundtrack to an Omega watch commercial starring Nicole Kidman.

Simone White's latest album, Silver Silver, released in 2012 by Honest Jon's, was produced by Samuel Bing and Julian Wass of Fol Chen. The title track features a guest spot from Andrew Bird on violin and vocals. Both SPIN and NPR premiered tracks and videos from the album and it received 4 stars in UK's MOJO. The album was included in NPR's discussion Our Favorite Music of the Year So Far in June 2012 and "Big Dreams And The Headlines" was included on their final list of 100 Favorite Songs of 2012.

Simone lives in Echo Park, Los Angeles.

Nicky Blitz

What kind of a fucking name is Nicky Blitz? Let's imagine you've woken from a rough night out, you check the mirror, you ask yourself, What the hell happened here? That's Nicky Blitz. Everything about him conjures a sense of panicked mystery. His songs will send you flashbacks of OUT OF CONTROL house parties and legendary prom nights. They’re as elegantly designed as a vintage suit and as liberating as ripping it off. Imagine Patrick Bateman at his high school dance. Instead of going apeshit with a knife, Blitz's weapons of choice are propulsive beats and melodic hooks. His tunes are a blend of 50's jukebox rock'n'roll, '60s LA psych, the darkest '70s electro-pop and 90s grunge rawness. It’s the newest wave and it'll stalk your nightmares for weeks.

The livewire behind it all is multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Nick Scapa. Scapa grew up in LA's San Fernando Valley, making beats in his teen years and aspiring to work with 50 Cent and The Neptunes. After Jay Z's former producer Aqua told him to buy an MPC sampler/drum machine, Blitz began landing placements for big pop stars. In the last few years he's written for Miley Cyrus (“Liberty Walk”) and Icona Pop (“Light Me Up”). With his production team 10K Islands - described as “The Brill Building meets Sub Pop” by the New York Times – he's also bagged licensing deals, scoring CNN and ESPN documentaries and advertisements for Honda and Windows among others.

But fuck all that shit. Nicky Blitz didn't set out to make commercial music, it just happened. He's psycho for creating and currently splits time between LA, New York, and his studio lair in Miami which has been used by everyone from Diplo and Pharrell to Skrillex and FKA Twigs. Festivals and promoters began booking Blitz due to his reputation for a provocative, unpredictable live show. His rise is inevitable, fuelled by a punk desire to turn nothing into something. There’s an inscrutable power and charisma about him, flashes of Elvis, Nick Cave, Jim Morrison, Talking Heads, Joy Division, the B-52s and LCD Soundsystem. What kind of a fucking name is Nicky Blitz? It's just the beginning.

New Politicians

New Politicians are a four piece Post-Punk, Alternative Rock band from Centerville, NJ. The band consists of Renal Anthony (vocals/guitar), Gian Cortese (guitar/keyboards/vocals), Erik Watson (drums), and John Comminel (bass). On April 21st, 2015 the band released their third EP entitled Remission. This seven track release is available to stream & download on their BandCamp.

"New Jersey’s New Politicians have quietly gone about their business – well, quietly in terms of being an under-the-radar, unsigned band despite making music that can be highly contagious or deep and contemplative. Dubbed as a post-punk, alternative band, on their latest EP, Remission, they take an approach that echoes of Interpol and A Place to Bury Strangers..." - Ben Yung, The Revue

"New Politicians are a band who seem very comfortable in their musical surroundings. They are not afraid to experiment with sound or skip through various musical genre’s. Collectively they have some sublime vocal melodies and impressive hooks that are well balanced with their Post-Punk ethos but are not overly exuberant. This is a band in love with music and I believe that for them this is only the beginning." - Del Chaney, Primal Music Blog

"Vocalist Renal Anthony has limitless talent and he routinely leaves me stunned with the passion and emotional depth of his performance, best heard on the stately title track. Even as the songs meander, the tracks seem to repeatedly reintroduce and reimagine themselves, morphing into intricate, emotionally driven masterpieces. This is music most people would love to make but simply do not possess the prowess to do so-each moment of Remission carries the listener away and reminds each person that there are bands out here still taking real changes." - Rich Quinlan, Jersey Beat

"The music itself, elegant and pronounced, is at times nuanced and other times obvious. The record is just as concerned about the arrangement and performances as it is about creating mood. There’s a slightly cinematic feel to the record, couched between a nostalgic 80’s feeling and a also a peculiar “newness.” It’s as though we’ve been led back to a grand old city – one the entire world knows from a bygone golden age. We’ve seen the pictures and we have practically visited every street in the cinema of our minds. But New Politicians takes us back to see all of those things we missed." - Unsound America

Kate Jackson

Kate Jackson, former lead singer with much missed Sheffield greats The Long Blondes, is back with a new album ‘British Road Movies’ and new band The Wrong Moves. ‘British Road Movies’ will be released on May 20th 2016 via Hoo Ha Records with first track ‘Metropolis’ streaming now on The Quietus and on Spotify.

The record was written by Jackson alongside guitarist and producer Bernard Butler at West Heath Studios in London. 'British Road Movies' takes in eclectic musical styles, from synth driven glam rock to Blade Runner electronica, faded piano allure to sweeping strings alt-country. All these recordings have two things in common, Jackson’s unique vocal top line and Butler’s instantly recognisable guitar sound. These are big, melodic alternative pop songs, with the guitarist’s naturally cinematic production perfectly complementing the narrative of the record.

Each new song was conceived as a movie title. “The road, much written about in American popular song, and an American cinematic staple, is often ignored in British culture,” Jackson explains. “As an island our roads lead somewhere far too quickly to hold adventure. We are not the land of Jack Kerouac but of Antiques Road Trip. But who is to say our roads can’t be cinematic?” She cites filmmaker Chris Petit's 'Radio On' film from 1979, Patrick Keiller’s Robinson trilogy and the writing of Will Self and Iain Sinclair as touch points.

The Wrong Moves were formed in 2014 after Jackson’s return from a four year hiatus in Rome where she lived and worked as a painter. Consisting of drummer Shannon Hope, guitarist Seymour Quigley, bassist Reuben Kemp and keyboard/synth player Jasper Kemp, the band bring a heavier take on the studio album, with dynamic interplay between a driving rhythm section and melodic guitar lines, synth sounds and vocal harmonics.

Jackson is also a visual artist. Since studying fine art in Sheffield, Jackson has focussed her attention on painting, developing a style which mimics that of screen printing by building up colour layers with the use of acrylic paint and taped stencils to produce bright, graphic images. Her work is primarily concerned with urban landscapes and architectural forms, a recent series of paintings, ‘Abstract Brutalism’, being inspired by post-war Brutalist architecture. Removed of context, a backdrop or people, a single building often becomes the subject of a painted portrait. Structures and shapes in the landscape made by the concrete forms and shadows of these buildings inspire paintings which seem at first glance to be patterns rather than representations.

Polaris Rose

Polaris Rose is a Los Angeles Alt Rock duo comprised of Peter Anthony and Madelynn Elyse. They emerged onto the LA scene in the Fall of 2013 with the release of their debut EP, “The Moon & its Secrets”.

The EP was not lost on the blogosphere, and was featured on IX Daily, The Ripple Effect, and Absolute Punk. Music videos for the EP’s two singles, “Chartreuse” and “Dreamers” were featured on 7Bit Arcade and Pure Grain Audio. Their EP release show was covered by Patrick O’Heffernan (NPR) , who stated: “Polaris Rose filled the room with seven songs altogether, impossibly well-crafted thanks to Peter’s enormous guitar chops and lyrical delivery, and Maddie’s room-filling voice and bass. As a live act, they top their studio album in sound quality as well as excitement, not always easy.”

Polaris Rose immediately began work on their follow-up EP, “OceanSongs”. Initially imagined as a two-song release, the album “grew in the telling”, becoming a 5-song self-produced EP.

The duo released their debut single, “Goddess” in February 2014. The song was premiered on AltSounds and was also featured on Largehearted Boy and 7bit Arcade. Their follow-up single, “Hurricanes” premiered on 7Bit Arcade and was also featured on Pure Grain and Hunnypot Radio. “OceanSongs” was officially released on April 22nd, 2014 and was described as “a unique blend of catchy, melodic choruses and energetic performances that sets them apart from the indie scene norm. Their songs are full of eccentric harmonies, memorable lyrics, and well-crafted instrumentation that is made all the more impressive by the fact that they produce and record their songs by themselves (AltSounds.com).” Following the release of their third single “OceanEnding”, the band was voted ‘LA Artist of the Month’ on LA Deli Magazine.

The duo’s debut full-length “Telescopes” was released November 11th, 2014 to positive reviews. The 10-song album put Polaris Rose onto Music Connect’s list of HOT 100 Live Unsigned Artists. The Aquarian Weekly spoke highly of the album, saying: “The best characteristic of Polaris Rose is their natural harmonious flow. They’ve got a unique situation in the sense that they have a really good balance between their musical efforts and relationship to each other. There isn’t a forced bond or lack of one either, but rather it seems like they’ve found a good bond without having to work too hard.”

In 2016, Polaris Rose will be releasing their second LP, titled Ocean Blue, Velvet Skies. It is the second album of a planned 6-album series. To achieve the vision of the duo, they brought in John Spiker (Tenacious D, Beck, Filter) to mix. Eric Boulanger (One Republic, Colbie Caillat) mastered the album.

The album’s first single, TigerBait was released in early January 2016. Kira Grunenberg, from Throw the Dice and Play Nice reviewed the song and had this to say: “If TigerBait is also one’s first introduction to Anthony and Elyse, the chances of multi-faceted intrigue are so high it’s almost scary. Starting with the unusual and gripping title, moving to the band’s delicate style of artwork and then diving into the song itself, each turn reveals a different dimension of expression that keeps one’s understanding of who Polaris Rose is, from ever fully settling –but never to the point of disjointed frustration.” The music video for “TigerBait” premiered on Pancakes & Whiskey on February 9th, 2016.
